The Story of the Art

Tree of Life

Laura Geiselman envisioned the “Tree of Life” design after talking with Manna and the Project 412 staff.

“When I’m making artwork, especially if it’s something that’s public art, I like to explore things that unify people,” Geiselman said, adding, “… it doesn’t have to be directly religious, but I also like things that are connected to the spirit world.”

The Tree of Life is a form of spiritual imagery that has found its way across many cultures around the world, she added, so she thought it was appropriate in this usage, as Manna Food Co-op is about supporting local growers and locally sourced foods.

About the Artist

Laura Geiselman

Laura Geiselman is a visual artist residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Initially self-taught as a painter and drawer, she sharpened her creative insight while studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and completed her bachelor’s degree at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

She finds personal meaning through living a creative life and engaging the community through public art. Her paintings and drawings reflect her exploration into aspects of reality that are not felt with our five senses, but perceived with our heart and imagination. She hopes her art will inspire others to look for unity rather than division, and deepen their connection with the natural world.
