The Detroit Lakes Poetry Walk is a grassroots public art project supported by Project 412 that displays original poems in the cute town of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. We currently offer two seasonal outdoor public poetry walks each year. Our goal is to inspire and promote poets of all ages and offer fun ways to make the art of poetry accessible to everyone in the community. These two poetry walks combine our love of language with our love of the outdoors (even in winter!)

Since 2022, Detroit Lakes has presented two seasonal poetry walks:

Polartry Poetry Walk showcases 32 poems in our City Park during Polar Fest, DL’s annual celebration of winter.
o Submissions open November 20 – January 15
o Poems on display — February – early March

Flowerpot Poetry Walk plants about 40 poems in the gorgeous giant flowerpots that Downtown Alive coordinates with Bergen’s Greenhouses through the generous support of community donors.
o Submissions open April 1 – May 15
o Poems on display — summer solstice – mid-September
