The Story of the Art

Worm's View

As I was raising my family and running my interior decorating business, La De Da Decor and Design, LLC, I lost track of my art, only dabbling now and again to create a piece for clients.

Recently, I have found my way back to my love of the arts and I spent over a year working on abstract techniques working with acrylics, alcohol inks, and watercolors. My love of color and flowers are major influences in my art and are the inspiration behind 'Worm's View.'

The lakes area is full of beautiful wildflowers in and around our lakes and forests and I love to use them as inspiration.

About the Artist

Kara Schumann

My childhood was spent in the small rural Minnesota town of Glyndon, and even at a young age, I knew I was an artist. From filling coloring books to using clay soil from my dad’s building sites to build adobe forts and “pottery” to singing on the swing, my days were filled with creative play.

As I was raising my family and running my interior decorating business, La De Da Decor and Design, LLC, I lost track of my art, only dabbling now and again to create a piece for clients. There’s only so many minutes in a day.  Recently, I have found my way back to my love of the arts and I spent over a year working on abstract techniques working with acrylics, alcohol inks, and watercolors.  I love color and you’ll find color in my art!

I offer workshops at the Holmes Art Cellar, where we explore a variety of media, including, but not limited to, acrylics, alcohol inks, and mixed media.  I hope you’ll join me for a fun workshop!  I also offer cookie decorating workshops at the Becker County Museum and sell my decorated cookies for holidays and events.

My love of color and flowers are major influences in my art and are the inspiration behind “Worm Views”.  The lakes area is full of beautiful wildflowers in and around our lakes and forests and I love to use them as inspiration.

Public art is an absolute favorite of mine, and I take many photos of murals, graffiti, and public art when my husband, Joe, and I travel.  Having public art in Detroit Lakes has been a dream of mine for years and I’m so excited and proud to have my art chosen as part of the Public Works Power Box project.

Please check out my artwork at kara-schumann.pixels.com for prints and merchandise.  You’ll also find my artwork in Bluebird Books in downtown Detroit Lakes, in the Becker County Museum gift shop, at the Holmes Art Show in the fall, and at the Cormorant Art Show each July.
