About Sagebrush

Project 412 is delighted to announce that Sagebrush will open for the Fabulous Armadillos on June 28, 2024, at Detroit Mountain. Sagebrush is a country rock-electric bluegrass band founded in Detroit Lakes in 1975 by brothers Cal, Mike, and Dana Tomlinson. The Tomlinson brothers played with many talented musicians from the region and performed in venues across the Midwest ranging from teen dances, supper clubs, college theaters, large nightclubs, and music festivals, including the first WE Fest in 1983.

In the late 1970s, Sagebrush signed with Seattle-based Good Music Agency (GMA) for band management and booking. Sagebrush relocated to Summit County, Colorado, in the early 1980s, and GMA booked the band throughout the Mountain West states. In 1985, the Tomlinson brothers retired Sagebrush to pursue their growing construction and insurance businesses. After performing some Sagebrush songs at Tomlinson family reunions, the Tomlinson brothers reunited Sagebrush in 2004. Since then, the band has performed reunion concerts featuring brothers Cal, Mike, and Dana, along with their sons Jeremy, Jesse, Austin, Jackson, and Lucas Tomlinson, plus most of the musicians who played in the band over the years.

The current local version of Sagebrush features Cal, Mike, Dana Tomlinson, Lucas Tomlinson, Phil Gilbert, Bruce Williams, and Mike Lewis playing an array of instruments, including violin, mandolin, banjo, guitar, bass, and drums. Their repertoire is tunes from the Americana songbook, such as Take It Easy, Mr. Bojangles, Wildfire, Amie, and Ghost Riders in the Sky.
